Notes From Meetup #2 At South Bank

Here’s a wee wall summary of the main points that were covered at the second meetup:

1) Intro from who was present and related podcasts – please post links to your podcasts on the facebook wall!

2) Promotion of Podcasts discussion – facebook (boosts), twitter, linking with other podcasters and their audiences, linking between mainstream and niche areas, live recordings, international interviews.

3) Production – types of recording equipment (olympus, zoom, videocamera, smart phone), software (audacity and adobe preferred), dealing with background noise (duvets/embrace the noise/ check out local recording studios/radio stations)

4) Themes for future meetings: sharing podcast excerpts and feeding back on these collectively, audience analytics, going through software tips together, funding streams.

5)Our favourite podcasts

6)Action points – facebook group, put up poll for next meeting. Sort venue. Connect with other podcasters group. Invite others along.

Introduction To Podcasting

The very first London Podcast Network Meetup was held at South Kilburn Studios where Jonathan and Chris from Specialty Media gave a presentation and discussion ensued amongst the 15 or so attendees. Audio and slides available below.

Covered in the presentation:

04:00 Definition of ‘podcast’ (slide 3)
08:10 Benefits for consumers (slide 4)
10:10 Benefits for Creators (slide 5)
12:40 Benefits for Advertisers (slide 7)
13:25 Facts & Figures (slide 8)
15:30 Podcasting: past, present and future (slide 9)
19:00 Comparing youtube content to podcasts (slide 11)
25:00 Getting into the New & Noteworthy Section on iTunes
35:00 Monitizing a podcast (slide 18)
46:15 How to get started (slide 19)
52:00 Common pitfalls of podcasting (slide 20)

At the end of the meeting, we agreed the best way forward was to actually record a podcast together at the next meetup so that members could see the whole process end to end.
